Austin Rivers

Austin Rivers came into the league with several small tattoos, barely visible during games. In a 2011 interview, while he was still at Duke, he went as far as saying "I like my arms to be clean from tattoos." Since entering the NBA, Rivers has added large tattoos to both arms.

Rivers has a portrait of Martin Luther King Jr. tattooed on his right calf, along with a quote of Dr. King's: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” In a January 2019 article in the Houston Chronicle, Rivers spoke at length about the significance of the quote:
“It is easy to do great when things are going well, which is a very relatable quote in terms of sports. You can have a night when every shot is going in. It’s really easy to be confident out there. When things aren’t going right in your career or you’re missing shots or you’re in a bad situation, how do you bounce back? How do you stay being yourself? How do you approach every night? How do you compete and have fun and trust yourself? That’s when you should be judged. That’s when you know what type of man somebody is.

“That’s what Martin Luther King was at all times. That’s all his life was: challenge and controversy.”

In a since-deleted post, in 2013, Rivers shared a photo of the tattoo along his ribcage which reads "ARrived." Presumably the capitalized AR refers to the player's initials.

As seen in this 2012 instagram post, Rivers has a tattoo on his chest that incorporates a Vince Lombardi quote: "The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack in will."

As seen in the above photo posted to his instagram account in 2012, Rivers has a tattoo on his wrist reading "G.F.B" which stands for God, Family, Basketball. The symbols are more recent than the letters, as seen in a 2011 interview with Rivers:

Rivers has the initials MOAM tattooed on his left wrist, an acronym for Man On A Mission. In the same 2011 interview where he discussed the design, he also said he has "Dedicated" and "Determined" tattooed on his fingers.
