In December of 2018, during his sophmore year at LSU, Tremont Waters appeared on Boot Up: The LSU Basketball Podcast. He spoke at length about each of his tattoos:
"The one on my left arm, it's water drops, and it's me in the middle, my dad, and my mom. They're smaller, because growing up, we didn't have a lot, but they did everything they could to make me who I am today, so that's why I'm bigger. And then it's 'Everything is earned, nothing is given,' I try to keep that in my head. Knowing that I'm smaller [Waters is 5' 11"] I have to work for everything, and just day-to-day life you have to work for everything. And this one is, I thought about it this summer. It's an arrow, and basically an arrow can only be shot by pulling it back first, so whenever I feel like I'm going back in life I just stay true to what I've been doing and just have faith. Because I know God's going to get me through it, and I feel like I'm going to be launched into something greater having those times or going through bad moments. It's originally a circle, and it had a 1 and and L in it, and I just had to add the lines to make it into a basketball. It's basically saying you only have one life so live it the way you want to live it, so help others. And then the cross with the heart in it. And then the letters stand for 'To Get Through It Go Through It" and then the 'XTGG' is it's all for the greater good so whatever I'm going through I'm just going to fight to get through it."A detail of the water drops tattoo he describes on his left wrist:
